Some people have what appears to be a laser
focus on
what relates to their goals. They seem to notice any and everything
that can be used to achieve their hearts desire. I believe that these
individuals have learned to use a brain mechanism called the Reticular
Activating System (RAS).
Sounds complex, however the RAS
basically determines what you will notice or pay attention to. It is
your minds screening device. Your conscious mind can only focus on a
limited amount of things at one any one time so your brain spends a lot
of effort on deciding what not to pay attention to.
There are
numerous stimuli bombarding your brain right now even as you read this
but your brain deletes most of it and concentrates on what you believe
is important. As such your RAS is responsible for how much of reality
you consciously experience.
Have you ever really wanted
something, like a car for example? You look at pictures of it, imagine
what it would be like to drive, hear the engine etc, then suddenly
noticed you were seeing them everywhere. Why is that? Because you have
placed a lot of focus and thought on this car and that has been take as
a sign by the RAS that this object and related items are now
significant and need to be noted. You now have an immediate heightened
awareness of something that was always there.
How does this work
with goals? Your focus on your goals aligns you more precisely with
them. Once you decide to make something a priority you give it
tremendous emotional intensity couple this with continually focusing on
it and any resource that supports you in getting it will eventually
become yours.
This is why it's not crucial to understand
exactly
how you will achieve your goals when initially setting them it's also
why you can dream big from the beginning. Trust your RAS to make you
aware of what you need to know along the way.
