Why should a Christian be rich? Is it okay to be rich?
There
is nothing in the Bible that says it is a sin to be rich or have
riches. There are, however, plenty of verses that encourage and compel
a Christian to good works.
Good works are works done in obedience
to Holy Spirit that will build up the body of Christ and bring glory to
God. Everything we have, our body, our mind, our time, our talents, and
our money should be used for good works.
Most Christians were
saying amen until the money came up. Too many Christians have been
sidetracked in their service to God, by money or the desire to have
money. Again it is not the money it is the importance you give to it in
your life. Do you want more and more to hoard or do you want more to
meet the needs of others?
I can hear some saying "I work hard for
my money and I am going to use it for me and mine. Let everyone earn
their own money". Yes, there are even Christians that have that
attitude, even though it does not agree with scripture.
You might
say what about Paul saying that if a person does not work they should
not eat. He is talking about those that have the ability to work but
will not. That is a far cry from those that are in countries that do
not provide a person with a way to earn money no matter how bad they
want to work. There are many in this country that have fallen on hard
times and just need a helping hand.
Those that say it is wrong
for a Christian to be rich or want riches do not consider the fact it
takes money to help the poor or support those that have dedicated their
lives to take the gospel message to the world. How much more are
Christians, being lead by Holy Spirit likely to use their riches to
feed the poor, send the missionaries, build hospitals, provide
opportunities to be employed or meet a thousand other needs?
Understand
the tremendous need; acknowledge God has called you to good works, then
use all God has blessed you with, to get as rich as you can so God can
use you and your resources for His glory.
As you are becoming rich do not forget to keep your eyes on Jesus and "Seek ye first the kingdom of God".
